Grand Knight’s Report

Dear Brothers,

Hello to all!

September brings us back into the swing of things. This month we have arranged for a speaker to come from the Lynn Center. They will discuss what they do and so forth. This will take place on Wednesday, September 12 at our general meeting. It will be nice to listen to him since next month is our MR drive.

We need everyone’s help with our calendar of events. We still need much help with the Harvest Faire, Open House, and MR Drive. Please call the chair people and let them know when you can help. In order to be a successful group we need participation from everyone. Also, please be aware that some of the events may be changing dates due to all the action/construction going on in our parish.

Father Dan's Mission, in Tijuana, needs clothes, medical supplies, toys, blankets, etc. Please bring whatever you can to the next meeting and we will get it to him. He needs our help and I am sure we all have many things we can part with to help him out. If anyone is interested in going to the Mission to help build houses, please let me know and we can plan a trip down. We need at least a group of twelve men to go down and help. I would like to go so please pray about it and see what God tells you to do. Search within your hearts and see if your talents can help Father Dan in his huge endeavor and ministry.

Hope to see all of you very soon.

In Christ,

Steve Fanfa

NOTES FROM THE AUGUST MEETING

The Grand Knight reported that a great time was had by all at the A’s baseball game. The A’s honored the Knights by flashing our council up on the big scoreboard. And I guess the Knights helped the A’s because they have sure been playing good since that game. (Ed. Note at the time of this is written they have an 11 game winning streak.)

Ed Lucido has been named a member of the Knights of Columbus VIP club for doing so well in recruiting new members.

Father Dan Crahen was acting chaplain. He gave a short talk about his parish in Tijuana that has 200,000 members. However the poverty is a tremendous burden upon them. That is why they are overjoyed to get old garage doors to make houses with. We are collecting blankets, clothes, toys, etc for Father Dan. Just bring them to a meeting and will store them until we have enough to take to Mr. Rudy Salinas, (925)634-0327.

Robert Velazques reported that the Harvest Faire is coming along just fine. The Knights will be doing the beer and linguica booth and the chicken dinner on Saturday night.

Frank Weber and Gene Daley reported that the planning is going ahead smoothly for the MR drive. We hope to get new aprons this year with the new logo, but they may not arrive in time. They still need two captains to manage K-mart and a supermarket.

Ed Lucido reported problems getting the parish center for the Grand Knights dinner. Anyone with a good idea contact Ed.

Frank Weber gave a very interesting talk on the rich history of the fourth degree.

It was reported that Joe Novero is not doing too well. His voice is stronger, but there are problems with his vocal chords and they will soon find out if the cancer growth has been arrested in his lungs.

HARVEST FAIRE
SEPT 14,15 & 16

Rick Kennealy and Robert Velazquez are still looking for volunteers to help with the Harvest Faire. If you can just spend an hour in the booth or at the chicken dinner that would help immensely. This is the main fund raiser for the church and it is also a lot of fun.

TOPIC FOR SEPTEMBER MEETING

At the September meeting someone from the Lynn Center will talk about the work that they do. Great topic to get us in the mood for the MR drive.

MR DRIVE

The annual Tootsie Roll drive is coming up in October. Remember we are not selling Tootsie Rolls, we are giving them out for free. Hopefully a donation comes back in return. Tootsie Rolls are used because the drive started in Chicago where Tootsie Roll was headquartered. Our council has been doing it for about 14 years. Letters are going out to members of the Antioch chamber of commerce asking for donations. It would be helpful if every Knight would go their employer and ask for a contribution. Let’s see if we can set another record despite manning fewer stores than we did before the St. Ignatius council split off from us.
